Do You Have A Work From Home Job Or An Online Home Business?

The differences between a 'work at home' job and an 'online home business' do get rather blurred.

Work From Home Job Vs Online Home Business

Essentially a 'job', regardless of whether it's online or in a physical workplace, involves providing a service or doing some work for an employer and getting paid directly for performing that service or doing that work.  Many companies have resorted to providing their employees with work at home opportunities during the Covid 19 pandemic.  It's my bet that a fair percentage of these arrangements will remain long after Covid has gone.  This is a 'work at home' job.

If you're providing a service / doing the work from home and you are not directly employed by one single employer you can certainly turn it into a service related home business. A resume writing or creative writing service is a good example of this type of home business.

An online home business is basically an internet version of a traditional 'bricks and mortar' business. You provide products and/or services to the market place in general instead of being directly contracted by a single employer to provide them with an exclusive service. The advantages in having an online home business are many, not the least of which are less overheads and, importantly, quality of life.

To build up a successful online home business you have to promote, promote then promote some more. You need to market yourself and your business and unless you know how to do this properly when you first start out, you have to learn how to do it. Either that or abandon the idea altogether but remember, winners never quit and quitters never win.

It Is Possible To Succeed In An Online Business World

There is absolutely no reason why newcomers to the online business world can't succeed BUT it does take planning, perseverance, dedication and commitment to those goals and dreams which propelled you into this industry in the first place.

When it comes to what to build your home business around - you can market your own products and services. It does mean though that you are pretty much going to have to wing it on your own because they are your products, provided by yourself and it's entirely your business.

Yes, there are advantages in this because you totally own what you're selling but the downside is the absence of the type of support you get if you promote products provided by someone else. If you're a successful online marketer already no problems but if you're just starting out this is something you should consider. Perhaps start out by marketing someone else's products then once you've established a good customer base, have an online presence and have learnt the ropes, move over to marketing your own products and services.

An Online Business As An Extension Of A Traditional Business

If you already own a bricks and mortar retail business you can start on online version either with your own commercial website or by opening up an online shop with a company like E-Bay. Be aware though that most of these companies do charge a monthly or similar fee up front to set up your store with them regardless of whether or not you actually sell anything. It may not be much but if you don't start selling immediately, those monthly fees will slowly start to add up and eat into your capital.
