Advertising, promotion, marketing etc that makes use of the internet and other electronic media to drive sales via electronic commerce (e-commerce) is referred to as Internet Marketing or online marketing. It also encompasses sales leads from Web sites
or emails. Typically, internet marketing and online advertising are backed up by traditional types of advertising such as radio, television, newspapers and magazines.
Types of Internet Marketing

Web marketing:
The massive
e-commerce sites like Amazon, TripleClicks, Clickbank, Ebay etc come under the web marketing banner. Also in this category are affiliate marketing sites like Secure Future International (SFI), Avon etc and promotional / informative sites (Wikipedia is the stand out example in this group). Web marketing also covers online advertising on search engines and SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
Email marketing:
As the name suggests, email marking involves advertising and promotional marketing via email and is used to promote to both current and prospective customers. This method relies heavily on 'lead capturing' - the 'capturing' of email addresses via opt in forms on websites and blogs usually offering free products, subscription to e-zines and so on. It is worth noting here that by law all communication sent out via email like this must contain a 'back out' or unsubscribe link and this link MUST be activated immediately.
Social media marketing:
Obviously this method uses social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Digg etc to distribute advertising and marketing messages.
